Lyocell / Tencel

Lyocell is one of the best sustainable fibers on the market because of its closed loop production process and for its multifaceted characteristics. For starters, it is extremely soft and supple to the touch. It's also known for its strength, elasticity, absorbency, and breathability.
Lyocell is a fiber that is made from regenerated cellulose, which is a substance that exists in the cell wall of plants. More specifically, the cellulose in Lyocell is derived from wood pulp or bamboo. An Austrian company, Lenzing AG, trademarked a version of Lyocell and now refers to it as Tencel ™. By using Tencel ™, we can have the assurance in knowing that the Lyocell fibers are being extracted from sustainably grown wood using a closed loop system. This means that they are able to re-capture and re-use 99.5% of the non-harmful solvents being used, therefore minimizing waste and any by-products of production.
